Retirement
“Never retire from being expected somewhere.”
I retired on the Friday and by the Wednesday I was frightened. Forty years of being needed by nine in the morning, and then nothing needed me at all. It took most of a year to work out that I had retired from a job, not from being useful. Now I drive people to hospital appointments three days a week. It is not a career. It is somewhere to be, and somebody expecting me.
Retire from the work if you must, but never retire from being expected somewhere.
